Do i think anyone of the cast has a chance at a successful career after GG?

Yes i do.

Does that indicate what will actually happen?

unfortunately, it doesn’t.

However, in my belief, all of the cast has great potential to succeed after gossip girl and i would love that to happen for them. 

To me, i think they have made a lot of necessary ventures outside of gossip girl in their careers already which already shows that they want to pursue acting beyond the show. I think i would be surprised if most of them didn’t make it. I think they have enough exposure now to be taken seriously by Hollywood. Especially the girls. They have been in the spotlight more. They have numerous magazine covers per year. numerous endorsements, I think that is indicative of the level of buzz about them, not just as fashion icons but also as starlets. 

As far as roles, I don’t think we’ve seen them have a lot of options but we don’t know the reason why. I think perhaps they’ve had to sacrifice great projects in the past due to their schedule on gossip girl. I think so for the boys too. I think a lot of them being excited for the end of gossip girl had to do with how much opportunity had to be passed to stay on the show, which is not as much rewarding work for them as opposed to those projects. Although they have to credit gossip girl for establishing them in the first place. However, i think we’ll see them in more projects now because they do have more freedom to choose. And i don’t think the shortage had to do with lack of talent on their parts but rather timing. And the ones who have moved back to LA i think are on the right track to furthering their careers.

As for the boys, the same. They may not have the buzz that the girls have but they do have their own hardcore fan bases  and i think there’s more pressure on the girls anyway because of the ageism in hollywood. They won’t be able to get some roles after a certain age whereas for boys it gets better with age. i think all of the boys are talented. I think the steps that they have taken outside of gossip girl have been right for them. Chace and Penn have done some indies and Chace even had a commercial movie recently, What To Expect When You’re Expecting. I think Chace has the advantage of doing both. I think Indie is good for Penn. Because of Ed’s fanbase and talent i think he should and can do commercial and indie films. With Romeo and Juliet coming out next year i think he’s already on the right path.

I don’t necessarily think any of the cast will become superstars and Hollywood heavy weights but can they be successful. Yes. I can see some of them at the Oscars and at the Emmys as nominees. And i can see Blake making blockbusters. However i wouldn’t like her to be typecasted as that because she’s actually very talented so i want her to make serious movies too. And i think she has a high chance of succeeding at it. She is so famous. I’ve met people who know her and love her but had no idea she is on gossip girl or what gossip girl even is.  Her fanbase is universal. Whereas for the rest of the cast, most people probably know them from gossip girl, however i think their fanbases are more dedicated and hardcore. Leighton has that and Blake doesn’t to that extent.

I don’t think anyone of them is necessarily typecasted so i think it won’t hurt them. Gossip Girl was never the ordinary teen drama so the cast was always more highly esteemed than on other teen dramas. And at its prime, when serious publications used to write about the show, they considered gossip girl a really good show and not just by teen drama standards. The cast was always highly acclaimed for their talent and hyped for their good looks. I don’t think gossip girl was ever like any regular teen show, and even now that it sucks it’s still not a typical teen show. It’s just still an adult teen show that took the highway into soap territory.

I can estimate what will happen but yes i do believe that all of the cast has the potential to succeed after gossip girl and i believe that some of them are headed right into it.

if Blake doesn’t detour and take a break for her marriage then i believe she’s on the accelerated path. However all of the cast has substantial amount of exposure to move forward from the show.

i did that just last week and i hate having to pick and choose between the people i love bc i can’t name them all so i’ll just name two.

And so what if Blair helps Chuck out. Without Chuck paying her dowry (though selflessly and anonymously) Blair wouldn’t have been able to have Waldorf Designs — because the same person she thoughtlessly risked Waldorf designs to have sex with is the same person who sent the video to gossip girl on her wedding day and started the whole mess. And Chuck is the one who fixed that shit so she could freely and publicly continue to date that person. So what if she gives Chuck a helping hand. He is going to be her husband and they will have a life together of standing by each other. That is what love is. It’s not like Chuck would not be making his own efforts. Chuck is a very hard worker too and he’s succeeded on his own without anyone’s help before.

well i hope i don’t come off that way because I would ever mean to think like that.

I mean Ed Westwick personally does get flack for sporting his signature disheveled look. I mean, there are blogs who dedicate themselves to making fun of him and calling him all kinds of name. 

ofc the fandom of people who actually like Ed Westwick outweighs the criticism by leaps but it doesn’t mean the criticism doesn’t exist. They make fun of his tattoos, body hair, teeth, etc.. Same goes for Penn Badgley. There are a lot of people who make fun of him and i’ve personally witnessed it.

And likewise there are people who criticize Leighton for her fashion choices. (btw, i love Leighton’s fashion identity even if don’t agree with all her choices. I get it and some people don’t) it’s daring, it’s expressive. She’s not the conventional Hollywood starlet by any means. To me, she’s always been classy but she’s not prim. She does take risks and sometimes her choices are very cerebral. And there are other times when you can tell she has little thought process for her fashion choices. And there’s nothing wrong with that either.

I think the real issue here is the demographic of the fandom who makes these comments. And judging by my experience in the fandom, the demographic is mainly women. 

It’s hard for me to be a judge here because the criticism Leighton gets is not necessarily hateful on all sides. Sometimes these girls look up to her and they want her to be like their fashion idol. I think a lot of them adore Leighton and just want to see her in something pretty so they can go to the mall in try to emulate her looks, because they want to the thier own version of Leighton Meester. I think it’s mostly about their admiration for her. Leighton doesn’t necessarily have that responsibility towards them but i don’t blame the fangirls for wanting to see Leighton in something pretty. I want to see Leighton in something pretty sometimes.

Fashion is an art form that people should judge. Some people will like her look, some people won’t. some people are just haters and that doesn’t only apply to Lei. I think the worst criticisms from girls though are those relating to weight and beauty. And Leighton does get hate on that but it’s not from the women in her fandom for the most part. Actually Blake has it 20x worse and i just feel disheartened to see it coming from other women. However, sometimes it’s an issue of jealousy. Some women, unfortunately cannot be happy for other women’s success or looks.

And i think, regarding the man vs woman argument. It’s also about the personality matching the fashion style. Ed seems like a rugged type and so he fits the look and it’s just an organic thing for him. Whereas Leighton, i know she has a hippie background, but she has matured in her fashion sense over the few seasons of gossip girl. Like she’s on every magazine’s fashion radar. And she relentlessly states in interviews how much she has grown, how much she loves fashion. She sets people up to expect a certain quality of look from her. She became a fashion girl on so many magazine covers. Ed was never known for that. So yes, i do understand why people particularly hold the boys vs the girls of gossip girl to different standards.

i agree with what you said. I like her outfit but for me the less makeup they put on her, the better. She is just naturally beautiful and doesn’t need all that enhancement. And like you said and it applies to everyone, you can’t do dramatic lip and eye at the same  time. it’s one or the other.

I actually can see past the makeup bc Leighton is just always beautiful regardless. the hardest thing for me is when they do her hair wrong, which is too often. When they do her hair right, it goes a long way and I feel they’re just lazy when it comes to her.
