I would never say that Dan and Blair don’t have chemistry together, I think they absolutely do. So do Chuck and Serena. Hell, so do Chuck and Dan. The point is that there are different types of chemistry, and what they have isn’t sexy, passionate, romantic chemistry- it’s cute, funny, squabbling frenemy-type chemistry. I get why people like it, I just don’t think it’s really comparable. Take any great dramatic or sexy Chuck/Blair scene- 2x01, 2x03, 2x13, 3x17, 4x02, etc- and Dan/Blair could never hold a candle to that. They excel at their own dynamic, which is why I prefer them as friends.
I think Blair will fall for Dan that's why she will try to fight it because of Serena's feelings and push Derena together at valentines day. It will not work since Dair will be kissing in the cab 5X18.
i doubt you really know the order of the episodes anyway. they have shot stuff out of order, you know. well i have never seen the pic about the cab kiss so i have no reason to even believe it happened. Even if it did happen, well we don’t know in what context. we just don’t know. i’m not going to speculate about things that happen that i don’t know anything about.
like i said, i know there’s a possibility Dair may happen but i simply just won’t care. clearly, Safran doesn’t keep an agenda just to not fulfill it. but i’d be pretty sure that most of these things happen before 5x17 which will be another turning point for the show, as i have read from people.
haha, why didn't you like 3x04? I didn't think it was that bad an episode, the CB scene was amazing aswell :)
the episode itself is not atrocious but one of the guest star’s acting in it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. and when i was watching her scenes, i like omg. let this be the end. some non-actors can pull of cameos, some just can’t.
Why did you think 5x11 was one of the worst episodes? I guess i kind of see your point since i cried for probably half the episode (so hard i actually couldn't look at the screen at times from all the pain). So that was quite horrible.
yeah, i guess because it was so physically painful for me to watch.
first off. i think the writing was horrendous. despite the direction of the sls, had the writing been passable, i wouldn’t have hated the episode so much. srsly, every time something came out of Leighton’s mouth, i was gaping at the screen thinking what the hell is this? the writing was unforgivable. certainly, there are things Blair did in the episode that i found a severe stretch from her character, as dramatic and exaggerated as her character might normally be.
basically the writing killed all the potential. plus the end of an affair sl sucked. it was very weak for a Chuck and Blair sl. like i managed to understand why Blair was acting the way she was and believing the things she was doing. However, using God to keep Chuck and Blair apart, that has to be the worst plot line ever.
plus the direction sucked. i feel like the director did not get the performance out of Leighton that i wanted, given that he didn’t allow her enough time to grieve in the flashbacks for her bb. i wish he would have allotted her more time to showcase this heartbreak. i mean, she just love her child. all around, disappointing. tbh
i didn’t mind the editing. i actually enjoyed the flashbacks. didn’t mind it or wardrobe
but everything else was pretty crappy.
oh and i rewatched 3x04 yesterday. don’t ask me why. and yeah it’s pretty atrocious too, expect it has one epic CB scene so i can’t be mad at it as much as i want to be.
What do you think will happen Monday? what are your guesses especially re. CB? i'm sure you'll have some thoughts? what do you feel the 'ginormous' twist will be? what are your expectations?
ok. well. this morning i was thinking vaguely about what may happen in the episode but i have a clinging premonition for some reason that it will be revealed that Blair’s baby that died in the accident was actually Chuck’s. the episode is supposed to end with a gasp. idk what else to think. Yes, it’s possible that DB have that scene in the airport, but a nagging suspicion tells me the baby sl will resurface again. I would be happy if that happened, even though i’m kinda bummed about Blair losing the baby and how everything unfolded. usually i don’t have many theories for episodes but this one i’m kinda sure of, plus with Georgie in the mix, a lot can go down.
However, there’s still the possibility that Dair happens. there’s the airport scene that could very well happen at the end of the episode. And people claiming the hoodie she’s wearing in the still for 5x14 is actually Dan’s. this is not my affirmative opinion but people have speculated about it to me. well, regardless of what happens, i think a lot is about to go down tonight. i’m not hopeful for anything but i’m not trying to be all pessimistic either. the best way to look at it is to think that whatever happens happens. Chair is OTP regardless.
But as far as getting married goes, i believe she does get married but it will be annulled sooner or later.
let me tell you guys something. My mom is a lovely lovely person. She knows Leighton Meester is my favorite person in the world. Every time she sees anything on Television with Leighton Meester, or she sees a magazine cover, she always calls me to tell me. And ocassionally she asks me how my Leighton Meester life is going. I tell her that my Leighton Meester life is quite dandy. And every time i’m home and i watch gossip girl, if she’s around, she’s always saying how pretty Leighton Meester is. And this morning, she was having a conversation at work and the person mentioned Leighton Meester but was quick to add “you don’t know her”. My mom texted me “ugh” kinda insulted that this person would simply assume she doesn’t know who Leighton Meester is. I was like “mom, calm down. you’re very young and you’re very cool and you know everything about pop culture. don’t listen to that person, mom”. lol. i love my mom
“It’s all about the work, you know. The feeling you get when you connect to the work,” Westwick says.”And that’s what I had with Chuck Bass in the beginning — I was fascinated by him. But now, to be completely honest, I’m ready to do something else. Really ready to do something else.” - This was 1/11, he later said i didn't mean it like that right? i can't find where, do you know?... so what do you think all this meant?
I mean, i’m not sure i read where he made a retraction of this statement but i can’t fault him for itching to move on. It’s not like gg is the best written show on the planet. Ed is very young and this is the time to exercise his acting muscles. gg in some way is keeping him sedentary. I mean, i don’t mind when the cast say they want to move on to other things. It’s expected of them to want to move on to other things, as long as they do so respectfully of the show and their other cast-mates. tbh, i would love to see all of them move on to other things. I think all of them are talented and could use more branching out. Blake Lively lively is friends with Harvey Weinstein so i feel she’s pretty safe in that department. And she wears Marchesa (Harvey’s wife’s fashion house) if not Chanel (which she’s contractually obligated to do) to almost every event with Louboutins and always Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. she strategizes pretty well. But the rest of them, i’m sure they all want to move on. They have too much talent to not branch out into the industry. And i want them to go and make a name for themselves. I really want Leighton to have all these opportunities she deserves and also i’d like for her to release her album.
but what i don’t what the other statement he made about this was.
BEAUTIFUL PERSON AWARD !!! Once you are given this award, you are supposed to paste it in the ask of 8 people who deserve it. If you break the chain nothing will happen, but it's sweet to know someone thinks your beautiful inside and out. ♥
'Yes when they are in a relationship he can claim her as his but otherwise where does his entitlement come from? I’ve said this before and although it is paradoxical, despite his sadomasochist fetish, he has an abnormally present delusion of grandeur and that’s why he thinks saying “I’m Chuck Bass” is the answer to everything.' you said this a while ago, can you elaborate a bit pls.. u think he has a sm fetish-why?
i know i must have written this a long long time ago because i certainly would not peg chuck with an sm-fetish at this point. But i think it depends on the time when i made the post, my feelings about Chuck at that time and the time i was referencing in the post, which most likely was something from s1 or s2. But i did used to label his excess in womanizing as an sm-fetish, even if i wasn’t correct in my assessment. At points in his character development, i thought it was but i don’t think i retain the same opinion now, after his whole redemption arc. An sm-fetish, not like the general definition or understanding of an sm-fetish — but i had made a loose assessment that he seeks the physical pain in sex as coping mechanism and validation for his low self worth — you know how he thinks he didn’t deserve to be loved by anyone. But then i juxtaposed it to the irony of his delusion of grandeur. I don’t really know what i was talking about here. But i get the delusion of grandeur association. Him saying “I’m Chuck Bass” as if he were God and that should satisfy every query. I really thought he did have a delusion of grandeur, because he believes in being Chuck Bass. He made a big deal out of it, everybody made a big deal out of it. He doesn’t have to follow rules. He doesn’t have to answer to anyone. This is how he reacted to the external world — people who don’t know him, people outside of his bubble. And sex wasn’t ever a big deal because he always protected himself against the outside world and no one could break through his intimacy. The only people who could break through his intimacy were his very best friends — and they’re the ones who really know who Chuck Bass is. Blair Waldorf. She sees Chuck Bass. all the smoking mirrors and the fact that he is exactly the opposite of what the world believes about him. A frail little boy, afraid of love. The irony of the two Chuck Basses. The one with the low self-worth and the one with the delusion of grandeur, for the sake of saving face against the world. He and Blair had that in common, putting up the appearances against the world. That’s why their story is so compelling to me. Mind you why he’s so dysfunctional. I can’t be sure i don’t still believe that now about Chuck. But i’d have to really think about it. I haven’t really thought about these things in a long time. give me time. I wish i had a better answer for you, and maybe i’m too presumptuous in my assessment and i don’t like that. But it’s hard for me to answer this question because i have no idea what i think of it now. my opinion of things changes overtime.
Happy Gossip Girl Day, everyone! Yes, that exists now.
To mark the occasion, made official this morning by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg at a ceremony on the Gossip Girl set in Queens, NY, EW caught up with executive producers Stephanie Savage and Josh Safran to get the intel on Monday’s 100th episode of Gossip Girl.
Now, much has already been said about the episode. It’s Blair’s wedding day, Georgina’s back, and there are love triangles upon love triangles about to come to a head. But arguably one of the episode’s most important moments, says Safran, has yet to be spoiled. (He checks online!) “You have to see [the last few minutes] to believe them. I really think they will take people’s breath away,” he says. “Someone asked on Twitter, ‘Will we smile or cry at the end of the episode?’ And I said, ‘It will be more like a gasp.’”
Elaborating, while still playfully coy, Savage explains that the final moment was something that “had to happen” in the 100th episode. “That’s one of the fun things about having a mature show in season 5, you feel like you can really have some fun. In the first couple of seasons, you feel like you have to keep certain things very guarded and protected because the hope is that you’ll have to make them last a long time,” she says. Safran adds: “What we can say is that why we made that decision will become clear with future episodes because, obviously, you’ll learn more about why that has happened, how that has happened. You see, it was such an easy decision…It wasn’t something we belabored over or had long discussions about. It really wasn’t.”
A more contested issue, as Safran has told EW before, was the outcome of the love entanglements (Chuck and Blair, Dan and Serena, Dan and Blair, Blair and Louis…), something fans will get a taste of in Monday’s episode. “Well, obviously [the end] changes things. And what happens in the episode for Blair, Dan, Chuck, and Serena will become a whole new world for them. Obviously, we pushed the 100th episode as a special episode — a huge wedding, a royal wedding — but it’s also the 13th episode of the season. So, the season arc does continue,” says Safran. “The 100th is a turning point, but it’s a turning point connected to everything that was happening before.”
While the episode set to air will certainly have big moments for the characters, off screen, the showrunner duo found themselves thinking about the turning point that led to their big moment today long ago. Before Gossip Girl had filmed a single frame, the pair recalls being shown a small sound stage in Los Angeles and were told it was where they’d film their show. Looking at the diminutive space, they knew even then that it’d never work. “I don’t know if we would have ended up making the show if we didn’t know we were making something we were proud of and something that reflected the vision we had from the beginning, which was very much about shooting on location in New York,” Savage reflects. Creating iconic Gossip Girl images — say, for example, the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where much of season 1 took place, would have been impossible. “Oh my Gosh, we would have have to find something in, like, Toronto,” laughs Safran, as Savage adds, “like the steps of the CN tower!”
Hi! Im new to the online fandom, though I've been a Chair shipper since the beginning. It seemed obvious to me that Chair is endgame, but when I came online, I started reading that the writers have been shifting gears. Should I be worried?
i mean, you should form your own opinion of what you think of the show. different people have different standards for excellence. If by your standards you think the show is doing ok, then great. Don’t change your opinion of the show because of the complaints people have about it. If it doesn’t bother you what the writers are doing, then just keep watching for your own enjoyment. I am attached to the show on a different level. I am attached to the characters, so the littlest thing about the show bothers me. And i know i complain day and night but those are my feelings. Different fans have different opinions, different level of attachment to the show. It’s most likely that when you join the online fandom, you grow more intolerant of the show because the online fandom likes to review every detail and follow very closely what the writers are doing. We speculate about upcoming episode and we have strong wishes for the directions of the sls, so we get more disappointed when things don’t happen the way we want than let’s say a casual viewer who just tunes in every week and has no expectations like us.
I mean, don’t let people make up your mind for you. Yes, the online community can be helpful and try to open your eyes about some stuff you wouldn’t normally notice about the show, but at the same time, there are a lot of people who have harbored resentment for the writers and whenever they criticize the show, they make their complaint heavier than it should be. I wish you good luck in this fandom cause it’s crazy. But there is a little handful of sane people here. You just have to gravitate where you see positivity instead of indulging in negativity.
oh and about Chair, i wouldn’t say worry, but sit tight and fasten your seat-belt.
BEAUTIFUL PERSON AWARD !!! Once you are given this award, you are supposed to paste it in the ask of 8 people who deserve it. If you break the chain nothing will happen, but it's sweet to know someone thinks your beautiful inside and out.
no. the chuck is not the father of the baby blair. the louis is the father of the baby blair. but the writers hated the baby blair so much they made the blair lose it. so the baby blair no longer will be born.
A quick Q since you're online: do you have many Qs in your inbox from sometime back about aspects of the CB relationship or scenes or EL? Or the show as a whole? Those all make for very interesting discussion.
i think i may have some of those.
i always get questions about EL and CB
so i’m pretty sure i have some of those, but maybe they’re all the way down the scroll
u didnt watch the last ep? why? u're not going to continue watching?
well no, i didn’t watch the last episode. I don’t plan on watching the next one either. I don’t know when i’ll be able to watch gossip girl again. but rn it’s not a good time for me. I was very disappointed with 5x11 and i thought the only way to remedy my dissatisfaction is to take a break from the show. I don’t agree with what Safran is doing to my favorite character Blair (..and her baby), so therefore i can’t watch and support it. If they can fix all the damage they’ve done to Blair, maybe i’ll tune back in
But only two things can get me to get back
1. Chuck and Blair reconciliation, not just any reconciliation, a credible, mature one
2.Blair becoming a powerful woman like they wasted 2 season hindering her from becoming
This whole thing about Dair... and Safran saying the audience is split half and half - did you read that?! - how popular exactly is the D/B pairing? I mean sure, there can be a small niche group of ppl that like it but it can't possibly be anything compared to how much CB is liked and appreciated and popular?
i mean i don’t even have to say CB is way more popular than CB. just doing a little research on the internet, you find that most of the topics and trend that come up are about Chuck and Blair. All over the place people want Chuck and Blair to be together. The casual viewer on twitter just really wants Chuck and Blair even the ones who don’t know the names of the actors. I check the feed all the time and that’s what i see. The DB focused episodes or the destructive CB episodes happen to be the lowest rated episodes when i look at the track.
There is nothing more popular or enticing on Gossip Girl than Chuck and Blair.
DBers can claim whatever they want, but if you do simple research, look at google trends, look at the Chuck and Blair feed vs the Dan and Blair feed in twitter. look at ratings. look who wins the polls. Look at yt clips with the most views. look at tumblr edits with the most notes. I wouldn’t defend something with no truth to it.
Blair's line 'it's like he peered into my soul' is a little ridiculous. Like Chuck hasn't 'peered into her soul' a million times - she talks like she was never happy, where as she was probably the happiest she ever has been with Chuck.
well, i didn’t watch the episode so i don’t know how enthusiastic she was when she said that line. I only read that she said that. However, i’m not making a big deal out of it like most people are inclined to do.
Well, just because she said that about the vows that Dan wrote for Louis, it doesn’t necessarily say anything about how she feels about Chuck. The expectations she has for Chuck are not the same expectations she has for Louis. Her and Chuck are past that point a long time ago. And i don’t think by saying that, Blair meant to insinuate anything about Chuck. So don’t look at the situation with Chuck in mind. This is strictly about Louis and the idea and expectations Blair had of him. Blair never expected Louis to understand her so well. Maybe Louis never verbally expressed these particular romantic feelings towards her. Louis never wrote her metaphors before — and now seeing them in the vows, she is pleasantly awestruck. Maybe she had such low expectations for her future husband, which explains why she may be so reluctant to marry him. He hadn’t made her feel as loved as she’d dreamed until he has professed these vows to her, in writing ( let’s omit the fact that Humphrey wrote them, for a second).
To me, this says nothing about Chuck. this is not about Chuck at all. Blair wouldn’t be surprised by Chuck peering into her soul. She already knows Chuck knows her just as she knows him virtually and thoroughly. There are no layers between them. They have conjoined in perfect union. "I have depths that Chuck will never plumb, but i know every inch of his soul" Blair told Serena in 2x12. and in 2x19 after Chuck told her “I know you better than i know myself” she told Chuck "You can see right through me, can’t you Chuck. right into my core"..Undoubtedly. If two ever shared a complete and utter transcendental understanding of each other, they’d have to be Chuck and Blair. He knows her next move before she even thinks it. She knows exactly how to soothe him even when he refuses to talk. Blair doesn’t have to expect these things from Chuck. These things wouldn’t surprise her. It’s something they both know full well and understand, all the very extensive intricacies and idiosyncrasies of each other
Anne is a Chair shipper. She has been here for them ever since the very beginning. She knows how important CB storyline is. Gossip Girl would not be the same without Chair. She believes in it. So stop giving the girl hate. She does not deserve it. If you dont like her opinion you dont have to hate her on it. She just explains her opinions and knows that she has no say to what the writers want to do. Leave this wonderful girl alone to ship whoever the fuck she wants to ship.
well i’m sure everyone who follows me already knows all these things about me. But at this point i don’t take the hate personally. I consider myself a part of Chair fandom, so whatever hate the send my way, i feel is a projection on the entire fandom. I don’t really feel alone. I get feedback from my fellow shippers. So the toll of their hate does not aggravate me as much as i’m sure they wish to.
I was reading some of the things dair fans say to you and thinking how some people are rude and agressive and petty (and how they have to impose their ship because is not likely to become canon but that's another matter) and if that happened to me, I probably would feel personally attacked even though it's a stupid internet comment about a fandom. So I just wanted to say I admire how you answer. You go girl. Chair forever.
Well, i don’t take it personally because every other post they make is a hate post against our ship. so i see it pretty often around here. they spend even more time hating on our ship than making sense of their own. I hate to use ‘them’ because i certainly don’t put all Dair shippers in the same boat. However, all the haters are the same, and a good constituency of their fandom are strictly Chair haters. It’s just so ridiculous. I wish they would spend more time evaluating why they ship Blair and Dan together. And i guess if they did that, they will find very little truth in the arguments that they make for their ship. No, Dan and Blair aren’t soulmate. You are ruining your own credibility by claiming shit like that.
Personally i'm v interested to hear your answers to the CB qs and the qs that have been in your inbox a while. Rhea x
oh you mean the old Q’s. i guess i’ll do a big roundtable for some of them. a lot of them are asking for predictions so they’re kinda irrelevant now that 5x11 and 5x12 have aired. Kinda helps me out. it’s not the end of the world if i don’t answer all of them. there are certain of them i’ve answered many times before. But you are right. I just keep forgetting you guys are waiting for those answers.
